Cruise Day 6
Wednesday, 9 Sept 2020
The Bonaire Tourism website (https://www.tourismbonaire.com)
sums it up pretty well:
"It is truly our pleasure to welcome you to Bonaire.
Our island is blessed with an unsurpassed natural beauty. From the
depths of our pristine waters to the height of our tallest peak,
Brandaris, you will feel Bonaire's magic wash over you from the
moment you arrive and throughout the days as you become attuned to
Bonaire's unhurried pace."
While diving is a big attraction here, there are many other things
to do.
Among cruisers, it has become very popular to rent a golf cart and
tour the island with the supplied maps and directions.
You can rent a golf cart through
Bonaire Cruisers, but
be sure to reserve early - they sell out fast!
Another thing I just heard about (not having
been to Bonaire before) is the
Donkey Sanctuary.
One of the resources I found describes it this way:
"The Donkey Sanctuary-this is no flea trap or
roadside snake farm. This is a first run operation by a Dutch couple
(Marina) who get NO assistance from the government to protect one of
the islands greatest resource treasures. Enter a sanctuary reserve
with donkeys of all sizes.... many rehabilitated from sickness and
injury. They nuzzle and play with you. No one will ask for donations
but try to be as generous as you can in the yellow buckets before
leaving. Tour the park by car and see over 300 donkeys. THIS IS
TRULY...A MUST DO THING !!! and don’t forget to drop left over money
in the donkey container at airport on leaving the country."
I will probably try and get there on the golf cart I intend to rent
for the day.
